Wolves work to 13-1, Tiger girls stay unbeaten

HAYES CENTER, Neb. — Tuesday’s tougher contest did not both Maywood-Hayes Center coach Kimberly Stengel following their 51-41 conquest of visiting Maxwell.
“The girls have had some fun, competitive games, and we continue to learn about our team.” coach Stengel said as her Wolves reached 13-1 this season. “We’re making adjustments during the game and in practices.”
The May-Hay girls shook loose from a 24-22 first half though it wasn’t quick or easy.
Maxwell stayed within 35-30 until the Wolves added 16 points in those last eight minutes.
Junior Caylie Softley continued to be a force with 22 points, seven points and three steals.
Another deciding factor was senior Karissa Stengel’s 19 points, including 50 percent from three-point range at three for six.
Stengel helped overcome a 27 percent shooting performance overall for May-Hay (20 for 73).
Senior Blayklee Farr and freshman Paytyn Stengel both swiped four steals to help fight off those RPAC visitors.
Farr added four points. sophomore Ava Messersmith three and junior Haylie Gustafson three.
Gustafson’s eight offensive rebounds and 10 total were other May-Hay strong moments.
Tigers now 11-0
BENKELMAN, Neb. — Junior Abi Spargo’s 26 points powered a Dundy County-Stratton 61-40 conquest of Hitchcock County Tuesday.
Senior Kimberly Escobar went three-for-three from three-point range for her nine.
The Tigers reached 11-0 as Spargo made 12 field goals while junior Emily Schack secured 12 rebounds besides adding eight points.
Senior Clara Spargo mixed in another eight points with nine boards against the Falcons.
