McCook girls run into hot buzzsaw at Broken Bow
BROKEN BOW, Neb. — Smoking was definitely allowed at Broken Bow High Tuesday because those Indians were sizzling through a 72-42 win over McCook High girls.
The Indians scorched 12 three-points through those nets, taking a 24-10 lead after one quarter then 47 total points into intermission.
McCook (3-7) joined in some sharp shooting after that break especially senior Jaylea Walgren.
Walgren smoothly made a trio of three-pointers when she wasn’t slicing past Indians for inside baskets.
Yet McCook could never cool Indians like senior Charlee Meyers, who made five of seven shots beyond the arc for better than 70 percent shooting.
Broken Bow (7-4 record) was 12 of 30 from long distance, and better inside at 15 for 30 with two-point baskets.
Younger Bison continued make an impact as they move into this season’s crucial strech of January and February.
Freshman Alexa Hilker put in two points, pulled down three rebounds and even dished out three assists.
Sophomore Hailey Smalley and freshman Payvn Terry also made varsity baskets. Plus don’t forget freshman Ellie Gillen sending out her first varsity assist with a sharp pass to Terry.
The Bison will hopefully carry some momentum into a super tough week which continues at Gothenburg Friday evening.
Those high-scoring Swedes always seem to be a strong challenge, and they’ve only dropped one game so far this season.
McCook then hosts 9-1 Sidney for only its second game at McCook High so far this season on Saturday afternoon (3:30 p.m. planned tip).
