McCOOK, Neb. - The McCook American Legion Post 203 will be holding 2025 Memorial Day services, Monday, May 26th starting at 10:30 am. The ceremony will be held at the Veterans Memorial Monument located near the north section of Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.

This year’s guest speaker will be McCook native, Lieutenant Colonel Scott Henrickson.

Lieutenant Colonel Scott Henrickson began his military career in 1989 as an armor crewman with the Nebraska Army National Guard in McCook. He received his commission in 2002 and has since served in a wide range of leadership and operational roles, including deployments to Bosnia and Iraq. Over the years, LTC Henrickson has held key positions within the 110th Multifunctional Medical Battalion, the Nebraska Army National Guard Medical Detachment, and the 72nd Civil Support Team (WMD). He currently serves as the Director of Homeland Operations (J3) for the Nebraska National Guard.

LTC Henrickson is a graduate of McCook Senior High School and holds multiple degrees, including a Master’s in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College. He also worked as a respiratory therapist and market manager in civilian life. His military education includes a range of specialized leadership and operations courses, and his service has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Meritorious Service Medal and the NATO Medal.

While June 21st this year marks the first day of summer, Memorial Day has long been the holiday more commonly associated with the start of the season. Memorial Day is the time to recount the sacrifice of all America’s warriors, honor the memory of America’s fighting men and women who died defending our nation and honor our family heritage. The observance usually includes the decoration of veterans’ and family graves, and in fact was originally known as “Decoration Day”. The public is encouraged to attend this brief yet honorable Memorial Day service.

  • Scott was in school at McCook Jr. High School when I was a counselor there. I always felt Scott would be an outstanding man. Now we have the proof of that conviction. Congratulations to Scott.
