Mini murals

Sixth-graders Ivy Bogardus, left, and Harlowe Arp consult with artist Karrie Steely, center, of the McCook Creative District, as they work on a mural project. On Tuesday, McCook Public Schools’ sixth grade students participated in the annual Heritage Walking Tour, exploring local landmarks such as the Keystone Business Center, MNB, the Museum of the High Plains and the McCook mural at West First and C Streets. The tour is intended to teach students about McCook’s history and foster a deeper connection to their community. At the mural site, Steely encouraged students to create artwork that represents what McCook means to them. Engaging youth in community projects is essential, she noted and hopes to showcase their murals in the near future.
