Aurora defender recovering after being carried off Weiland Field
McCOOK, Neb. — Aurora junior defensive back Canon Allen suffered no neck injury but will be going through concussion protocols this week and may miss the Huskies' next game, Aurora News-Register sports editor Kurt Johnson reported Monday.
Allen was apparently "knocked out cold" when his head collided with a teammate's knee during third-quarter action at McCook Friday evening. The game was delayed for more than 10 minutes until Allen was taken from the field on a stretcher.
However, Johnson reported the 5'9" 155-pound Allen had full movement in all his limbs and has started recovery. McCook eventually scored its final touchdown of a 33-14 triumph.
The Huskies are set to play 2-0 defending C-1 state champion Wahoo Friday night in Aurora.
If Allen misses the contest, hopefully he'll be ready for the Sept. 20 contest at Columbus Scotus.
Another tough moment occurred when Aurora bus broke down while traveling to McCook for its first game at Weiland Field since 2019. Aurora officials thanked Holdrege High School's loan of a "backup" bus which transported the remaining Huskers in time for Friday's game.
