McCook Public Schools to offer free summer meals

Friday, May 24, 2024

McCOOK, Neb. — McCook Public Schools will participate in the USDA Kids Summer Food Program during June and July, offering a free grab-and-go breakfast and lunch for children aged 1 to 18.

MPS Business Manager Jeff Gross made the announcement during the May MPS School Board meeting.

Children attending summer school can place their meal orders directly in the classroom for the upcoming week. Online sign-ups will be available for all other families interested in the program. The meals will begin on June 3, 2024. Those wishing to participate can sign up online beginning Monday, May 29, 2024, BIT.LY/MPSFOOD24.

Starting June 3, a convenient drive-through pick-up line will be available at McCook Elementary School at 1500 W. Third Street. Families can opt for daily pick-ups or collect meals twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays between 10:30 and 11:45. Both breakfast and lunch will be provided from Monday to Friday.

MPS has reached out to local daycares and day camps, inviting them to participate in the program. Importantly, there are no income restrictions for families to benefit from this initiative. Gross emphasized the significance of the program by stating,

“It’s important to us to make sure kids are being fed.”

Pickup for July will be at another location; more information regarding that will be released at a later date.
