Longhorn plays one-day 'C' state golf tourney

Chase County junior Gavin Wisineski shot 86 and tied for 35th place in a weather-shortened Class C state golf tournament on Thursday.

Wisnieski represented the Longhorns in a tourney where Kearney Catholic shot 322 and edged Columbus Scotus by one stroke for the team title.

St. Paul placed third at 329, Grand Island Central Catholic fourth with 336 and Doniphan-Trumbull’s 339 took fifth.

There were 15 teams qualified.

St. Paul senior Samuel Wells won a tie-breaker over Kearney Catholic sophomore Nash Malone for the individual title after both fired rounds of 73.

Jett Hollister from Doniphan-Trumbull took third at 73.

William VanBoening of Alma led RPAC qualifiers with his 87 tying for 40th place among the 98 who finished this 18-hole event.
