Elk struck, killed in Dundy County

The Dundy County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call early Wednesday morning that a female elk was struck and killed on U.S. Highway 34 near mile marker 41 three miles from the Hitchcock County line. The driver was uninjured but the vehicle had to be towed from the scene and the animal was removed from the roadway by bystanders. The sheriff’s office expressed thanks to those who helped move the animal and thanked the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission for assistance as well.
