Summer plans among full agenda for City Council meeting

McCOOK Neb. — Presenting to the City Council,  Sarah Schneider, director of the McCook Area Chamber of Commerce, will unveil the Chamber’s upcoming events.

The meeting is 6 p.m. Monday. The public is encouraged to attend.

Schneider’s insights will underscore the substantial role of the City of McCook’s ACE contributions in promoting these community events.

The McCook Arts Council/Creative District will seek approval to close Norris Avenue from May to October for their organized Third Thursday Events. 

Approval is also being sought for street closures to facilitate the 8th Annual Cruisin’ the Bricks Cruise Night and Car Show, scheduled for Saturday, June 22, will need the streets closed to ensure the safety and smooth flow of the event.

The designation of “National Skilled Nursing Care Week” from May 12 to May 18, and recognition of “Professional Municipal Clerks Week” from May 5 to May 11 and May 11, 2024, are up for approval.

A public hearing will be held to discuss the application of Taste of Texas BBQ Inc., for a Class ‘I’ License #125223 under the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission.

This license, if approved, will replace an existing one at 112 West 11th Street.

Reports from the Economic Development Plan Citizen’s Advisory Review Committee and appointments to important committees, including the Airport Advisory Commission, will be discussed.

Consideration of Change Order No. 1 for the Business Park Phase II Water & Sewer Project and approval of compensation for paid-on-call members of the City of McCook Fire Department are on the agenda.

Debbie Thorpe, the City of McCook’s Public Works Administrative assistant, will present on recent nuisance abatement efforts. 

An executive session will be held to discuss real estate purchases for the Sports Complex.
