McCOOK, Neb. — A 33-0 weekend through four opponents only made McCook coach Matt Wiemers more eager for practice on Monday.

“I have to really push them,” Wiemers proclaimed after missing some matches due to illness.

The Bison were still pictures of success throughout their dual sweeps of Scottsbluff and Gering Friday followed by a Bison Invitational title on Saturday.

McCook’s 48 tourney points doubled top contenders Scottsbluff (24) and North Platte (24).

Those numbers suggested a combined Bulldog-Bearcat team could have challenged Wiemers’ girls but ...

It would not have made any difference.

Wiemers provided more insights about his tennis lineup entering Thursday’s matches against Kearney Catholic in Kearney.

“The team competed well and it was nice to close out the final home matches in dominating fashion.

Rowen and Roslyn (Wiemers) avenged an earlier loss to North Platte Saturday. They had a tough day when they played North Platte earlier, so it was good to see them come out and get a win.

Overall, our girls competed well as a team and that’s what we are continuing to do, compete and get better than we were the day before. We worked on areas needing to be addressed with our doubles teams, which was good to see them use those new improvements in their matches.

Things will only get better and we will become more proficient as the changes become natural. Big meet on Thursday in Kearney. Solid field of teams will be on hand at the Kearney Catholic invite.

The hosts Stars will be tough on their home courts and GICC will offer a tough challenge. It will be fun to see our girls go up against some upper tier teams.”
