Trio of girls teams set for district finals; Bison go to G.I.

LINCOLN, Neb. — The official Class D-1 and D-2 district finals pairings include Maywood-Hayes Center, Southern Valley and Dundy County-Stratton all playing at venues on Friday, Feb. 23.

Meanwhile, the McCook girls will start their Class B-7 subdistrict play Monday night at Northwest High School in Grand Island.

McCook (9-11) will be the No. 2 seed and face No. 3 Hastings (5-15). Official tip times are still to be announced, but they will follow Monday's first semifinal pitting Northwest (10-11) vs. No. 4 Lexington (1-22).

The B-7 subdistrict final is set for Tuesday with no tip time decided yet.

Those three subdistrict champs from the Gazette area all know full details about their state-qualifying district title games.

Southern Valley (25-1 record) has earned the Class D-1 No. 3 seed and get to host No. 14 Amherst at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles are aiming for a return state tourney trip.

Maywood-Hayes Center (21-2) is seeded ninth where the Wolves will meet No. 8 Elgin Public/Pope John at Kearney High School Friday evening. Tip time is also 6:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, surging and surprising Dundy County-Stratton (14-11) goes for another upset against No. 2 Falls City Sacred Heart which will be a Class D-2 district final at Hastings High School.

Tip time is 6 p.m.
