McCOOK, Neb. — Residents and a pet escaped injury but were left homeless as a mobile home received extensive damage in a Halloween morning fire Tuesday.

The American Red Cross responded to help the residents find shelter.

According to a release, the McCook Fire Department responded to the 1409 East Fairacres to find the trailer engulfed in heavy smoke and flames.

Fire department personnel quickly extinguished the flames and remained on the scene for some time to extinguish remaining hot spots.

Preliminary findings suggest that the fire's origin is electrical, primarily within the rear bedroom area. An investigator from the Nebraska State Fire Marshal's office was summoned to aid in the ongoing investigation.

The City of McCook Fire Department, with the support of one ladder truck, one engine, one ambulance, and one command vehicle, responded to the incident. Additionally, mutual aid was provided by the Red Willow Western Rural Fire Department. A total of eleven fire personnel spent over two hours at the scene.
