PARKS, Neb. - A road was closed for 10 hours and a driver treated for non-life-threatening injuries following a train-truck collision Saturday morning.

At 10:03 a.m., the Dundy County Sheriff's Office responded to a distress call regarding a semi-truck collision with a BNSF train hauling coal on River Road near Parks. The incident involved a 2006 International semi-truck operated by Jason Hilker of Cambridge, Neb.

According to the subsequent investigation, it was determined that the 2006 International semi-truck failed to yield to the oncoming train, resulting in a collision. The impact caused the semi-truck and its trailer to separate, with the semi-truck eventually overturning onto its side.

Hilker was transported to Dundy County Hospital by Dundy County EMS for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

In addition to receiving medical care, Hilker was also cited for failure to yield in connection with the accident.

The severity of the collision necessitated the closure of River Road for approximately 10 hours while efforts were made to repair the train and clear the roadway for normal traffic flow.
