McCOOK, Neb. — It was a grand home finale for the defending Class B state champs with burgers grilling, crisp autumn air and one 9-0 varsity sweep of North Platte Thursday afternoon.

McCook’s five senior singles players delivered a buffet of big wins from No. 1 Nathaniel Miller’s 8-0 sweep to No. 4 Kaiden Porter prevailing 8-6.

Porter joked about challenging Miller for a higher singles spot, but the Bison lineup looks solid and set to make another state title quest.

Senior Jonny Frank continued his strong only season at No. 2 singles, winning 8-1 Thursday to reach 24-7 this fall.

No. 1 doubles Lincoln Michaelis and Porter reached 25 victories while junior Reid Loop has joined senior Caleb Shaw for a 24-win No. 2 doubles team.

The Bison capped a 21-3 dual regular season.

However, they’re definitely looking forward to Saturday’s inaugural Class B state duals tourney at Kearney.

The NSAA non-sactioned event bracket is set featuring many of Class B’s top 10-rated teams.

No. 2-seed McCook starts at 11:30 a.m. with a dual against No. 7 Grand Island Central Catholic or No. 10 Lexington. More details and matchups appeared in Thursday’s Gazette or can be seen on mccookgazette.com.
