GOTHENBURG, Neb. — Both McCook cross country teams finished fourth among 26 schools competing at Thursday’s Gothenburg Invitational on Wildhorse Golf Course.

Sophomore Emma Cappel won the girls division with 35 seconds to spare while classmate Brecken Gale finished fourth just ahead of Wallace top runner Ashley Robertson.

Junior Josiah Wilkinson returned to a top 10 finish for the Bison boys, joining Medicine Valley soph Kael Garrett as he placed eighth.

Coach Tom Sughroue offered these remarks about his Bison:

For our second race of the week I think we ran really well,” he said. “The weather being warmer than we would like it to be this time of year.

Both boys and girls finished 4th as a team in a large field of teams I believe there were 26 teams at yesterday’s meet. I was very pleased with the results of yesterdays meet. We will need to continue to improve as we are entering the later part of our season”
