Husker hoops taking shortened team to Spain

Monday, July 24, 2023

Nebraska men's basketball will play its three exhibition games in Spain without a third of its roster.

Husker coach Fred Hoiberg announced Monday that Josiah Allick, Sam Hoiberg and Blaise Keita will be held out of the three exhibition games — the first one is Sunday — while recovering from ankle injuries, or in the case of Sam Hoiberg, knee pain.

They'll make the trip to Spain but watch from the bench.

Rienk Mast (The Netherlands) and Keisei Tominaga (Japan) are busy playing for their country's international teams and won't be on the trip.

"We're going over there very short-handed," coach Fred Hoiberg said.

Which means 6-foot-7 Charlotte transfer Brice Williams will be the tallest available player in Spain, followed by 6-foot-6 Juwan Gary, who has recovered from in-season shoulder surgery and will play roughly 10 minutes of each exhibition game.
