McCOOK, Neb. — The phrase lights out certainly doesn’t mean MNB Seniors are falling asleep during some big late-night baseball games this week.

In fact, the McCook boys are on a three-game win streak with their 9-5 victory over Holdrege Thursday evening.

“We’re playing lights out both offensively and defensively right now,” coach Chris Conroy proclaimed. “Oh, we’re making an error or two but we’re coming right back and focusing on that next pitch.”

“Offensively, we’ve been approach driven and determined to do what it takes to move guys around,” he added.

The Seniors plated nine runs on only five hits Thursday night.

Tristan Campbell crushed a huge triple and also walked en route to scoring two runs.

Trenton Raile rounded the bases twice which helped MNB build a 9-1 lead.

Yet no batter was more productive than veteran outfielder Coleton Lentz.

Lentz turned some extra “cage work” into two hits, two RBIs and a run scored Thursday.

“Coleton’s going to play come college ball here for (McCook Community College) so we need to get him ready,” Conroy said. “He’s been struggling a bit lately so I said let’s get you in the cage. He got some good work done and Coleton definitely had a good game.”

Lentz also pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief to protect the MNB lead.

Brody Graham earned the win as he threw those first 3 2/3 innings. He delivered seven of McCook’s 14 strikeouts against Holdrege.

Lentz fanned five and Bryson Gullion two during his one inning.

Oliver Corbett (hit, run, RBI), Carter Larson (hit, run), Miles Pollmann (run) and Gabe Roberts (run) were others who helped raise the MNB record to 3-5. They’ll host Broken Bow on Saturday.
