World Series journey begins today; watch out for Green Wave!

Friday, June 2, 2023

Every college baseball fan’s favorite day of the year is finally upon us.

Today officially kicks off the 2023 NCAA Baseball Tournament, a 64-team, 25-day annual extravaganza that will have 32 games played in a single day.

Thrilling matchups and remarkable performances are virtually a guarantee as the best collegiate baseball talent is showcased.

Over the first three days of the tournament, the field will be slashed from 64 teams down to just 16, which will be cut in half again to form the 8-team College World Series in Omaha.

With so much carnage happening so quickly, it’s impossible to keep up with it all, or watch every game.

However, there’s a few things that every viewer should keep an eye on as we head into Regionals.

Potential

Cinderella Story

It seems all-too-perfectly lined up that the Tulane Green Wave will make a run at their region. With qualifiers split into automatic (winning a conference tournament) and at-large bids, Tulane shockingly won the American Athletic Conference tournament, making them one of 31 automatic qualifiers.

The team finished the year 19-40 overall, proving that all it takes to be successful is to get hot at the right time.

They were drawn in the same region as LSU, who sits as a #4 seed currently but began the season projected #1 overall.

The Green Wave shouldn’t stand a chance, as they’re currently ranked #158 overall in RPI ranking.

Teams to Watch

The conversation starts with Wake Forest as the top overall seed. The team went 47-10 in the regular season, winning the ACC in dominant fashion.

They’ve only won one College World Series in their school’s history, all the way back in 1955.

The Demon Deacons also face a tough precedent, as the last top overall seed to win it all was in 1999.

The LSU Tigers, led by projected #1 MLB draft pick Dylan Crews and #2 pick Paul Skenes, clearly have serious championship aspirations.

While they fell from their preseason top spot en route to a 43-15 season, the team will still be playing on their home field in Baton Rouge with some of the best talent in the game, making them a dangerous team on the road to Omaha.

As anticipation builds for the biggest college baseball event of the year, 64 teams are vying for a trip to TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha later this month.

With an exciting mix of perennial favorites and underdogs, the stage is set for a thrilling month of baseball.

The College World Series starts on Friday, June 16 in Omaha.
