McCook JV girls earn a strong second at Kearney

McCook High’s JV tennis girls capped a stellar season Monday with their close second-place finish to the Kearney Invitational host Bearcats at Harmon Park.

KEARNEY, Neb. — A combined 20-5 grand finale performance lifted the McCook Bison JV tennis girls to second place at Monday’s Kearney 10-team tourney.

“A super effort and excellent way to closeout the season,” coach Matt Wiemers remarked about his team.

Senior Laci Stewart and sophomore Brooklyn Gillen teamed for a 5-0 championship.

Freshman Jaylee Hammond was just as phenomenal at No. 2 singles where she defeated all five foes.

Seniors Paige Wolcott and Harper Stevens lost one match but won four for third place at No. 2 doubles.

Some JV players will join the Bison varsity at Adams Center on Thursday.
