McCOOK, Neb. – There’s a new face at the McCook Chamber. Briahana Schwarz-Fleming has recently joined the staff as a part-time office assistant. Briahana will be working most afternoons for the chamber.

Chamber President Molly Smith said that Briahana comes with “some great graphic design style”, and will be able to take on a lot of those types of responsibilities.

Briahana is a sophomore at Mid Plains Community College with a general studies major. She is from Seattle, Wash., but said she spent a lot of her childhood in Dundy County. She plans to continue her education and major in Multimedia/Graphic Design.

Briahana says she has a lot of energy and thrives on challenges. “I have a passion for creating change and making a difference,” she said.

That energy will be put to good use, as the chamber has several events coming up. The member mixer and awards ceremony will take place April 20. The informal gathering will be the chamber’s annual meeting, and will also be the occasion for presenting the chamber’s annual awards. Taking place at Norris Alley beginning at 6:30 p.m., the Community Builder, Volunteer of the Year, and Community Service Award recipients will be honored. There is no charge for members to attend, although a cash bar and food trucks will be available. Strings Attached will provide entertainment.

Planning is ongoing for the Bash on the Hills to take place June 16 at Heritage Hill Golf Course. Smith said the chamber is excited about the country band that has been booked as the headliner, as well as an opening band that features contemporary music.

The event will also include a cash bar, food trucks, and yard game activities. Smith said Justin West, the golf professional at Heritage Hills, has been a tremendous help in generating some new ideas for the Bash on the Hills.

Summer promotions will include Crazy Days June 22 to 24 with a “70’s Country” theme, as well as a Back-To-School event to take place August 3 to 5. The chamber’s retail committee has been putting together the details for both events.
