McCOOK, Neb. — McCook High School leaders are excited to announce Easton Gillen as the Bison girls’ new head softball coach.

Gillen is currently a elementary math teacher at Central Elementary and is also an assistant coach on the girls basketball team since starting with the McCook schools last August.

Easton graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 2022.

He began his coaching experiences working with McCook Bison football and most recently working for Elm Creek High School as an assistant football coach and track coach.

He is a 2017 McCook High School graduate and participated in football, basketball and track while in high school. He attended both the McCook Community College and the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

“I am extremely excited and honored to take over as head coach of the McCook softball program,” Gillen remarked.I am looking forward to having the opportunity to work with great student athletes at McCook High School.”

Gillen assumes a program which should return several talented players from last year’s Class B district finals team.

He replaces coach Jason Cochran, who guided the Bison to 256 softball wins and five state tournaments during his 16 seasons starting in 2007. Cochran resigned last October.
