Stick to farm life
Dear Editor,
The McCook Gazette published a weekly opinion article on Thur, Feb. 23 from an Indianola resident titled “To heck in a handbasket” — appearing underneath the author's area of focus: “Frolics in Farming” and “Observations on farm life.”
A friend from the McCook community sent me the article and noted it was “absolutely enough to make me ill” and showed why “two of my kids say they would never return to McCook.”
To start off, the author shares some insight on our criminal justice system, insights gleaned from watching “a lot of crime shows on TV.” Then, after 154 words of unsubstantiated rubbish, the author moves on to share her thoughts on the so-called “woke agenda” (a vaguely defined phrase that seems to apply to anyone who supports social justice and tolerance for others).
The author might as well have said “gay agenda” rather than “woke agenda”, as the two examples of this “wokeness” are the appointment of Admiral Rachel Levine (an openly trans woman) as Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Pete Buttigieg (an openly gay man) as U.S. Secretary of Transportation.
I suggest the author return to “observations on farm life” rather than espouse such nonsensical observations that seem more rooted in disdain and worn-out national talking points than anything positive to offer the community. Maybe turn off the TV and radio and have a look around—I promise the gays aren’t after you.
