Trojans, Wolves win big in subdistrict semifinal

HAYES CENTER, Neb. — No. 1-seed Maywood-Hayes Center and No. 2 Cambridge both scored nearly 40-point wins to start D1 subdistrict playoff runs Tuedsay evening.

The Wolves (22-1 record) devoured a 72-33 victory over Maxwell (3-20) behind three seniors who’ve been lighting up playoff nets all four years.

Senior Olivia Hansen scored 19 points just a few nights after topping 1,000 career points for MayHay.

Senior guard mates Kiley Hejtmanek and Ashlin Broz followed with 14 points apiced while six other Wolves hit shots in this win.

Sophomore Kesli Cox put in seven, junior Ellie Broz six, sophomore Karissa Stengel five and freshman Reagan Stengel another four.

Hansen and Broz both buried a trio of three-pointers with Cox connecting on another two.

Meanwhile, the Cambridge Trojans (13-10) were playoff ready throughout their 73-34 semifinal trouncing of Sandhills Valley.

Senior Breelle Miller continued her sharp shooting Trojan fans have seen most of the season. She hit five three-pointers and totaled 20 points.

Brylyn Springer mixed in another 16 with her strong inside work near the basket.

Junior Jalen Kent added 10 points with sophomore Erin Johnson adding 10 and freshman Mallory Springer scoring nine.
