McCOOK, Neb. — Senior Kyler Cox’s RPAC scholarship showed the Maywood-Hayes Center really were double winners Saturday evening.

“Kyler is everything you look for in an RPAC student-athlete,” league commissioner Alan Garey remarked.

Cox contributed six points, three steals and two assists while the M-HC boys were also victorious on that Graff Events Center court Saturday night.

They took an early lead then fought off multiple comeback attempts from Bertrand during a 57-43 finals victory.

Maywood-Hayes Center’s first RPAC boys hoops title featured senior Hayden Kramer (22 points) and junior Jeremiah Ingison (17) leading an 18th consecutive win (18-0).

Bertrand (8-7) reached its second straight RPAC title game with big wins over East Division No. 1 Alma and No. 2 Cambridge last week.

“They’re fast, they’re athletic, they shoot it a bit and they have some bigs,” M-HC coach Kolby Hamilton observed. “They gave us some problems. We weren’t completely there tonight, but we played well enough to win.”

The Wolves delivered a thrilling 60-58 semifinal win over defending RPAC champ Dundy County-Stratton Friday night in Paxton.

“This is a goal we’ve been striving for several years,” coach concluded. “A lot of long hours in the gym and some frustration. It’s good to see the work paying off.”

The Wolves will play a rematch at Bertrand, though, tonight.

M-HC (18-0) — Hayden Kramer 22 points, Jeremiah Ingison 17, Haydn Farr 7, Kyler Cox 6, Jhett Sellers 5. Three-pointers: Kramer 2, Sellers 1. Rebound leaders: Kramer 7, Farr 6, Ingison 6, Sellers 5, Jon Patel 5. Assists: Sellers 7, Ingison 3. Steals: Ingison 5, Cox 3, Kramer 3.
