BENKELMAN, Neb. — Wauneta-Palisade’s girls set a new team record as they made 11 three-pointers in their 63-29 triumph at Dundy County-Stratton Tuesday evening.

Red alert should have sounded when junior GraCee Goings drilled eight of 14 threes en route to 35 points — clearly one of this area’s best pre-Christmas performances.

She sent her best presents in from long distance, hitting eight of 14 threes for 57 percent.

Senior Cali Cox coolly connected twice outside the arc while adding 10 points.

“The girls have been chasing that three-point record for a couple of years, and I was glad to see them break it,” coach Matt Cox commented.

Classmate Chloe Stehno added seven points and junior Peyton Cox six.

The Broncos twice scored 23 points during Tuesday’s first and third quarters.

They go 6-2 into their Christmas break before playing at next week’s Arapahoe Holiday Tournament. They’ve won four straight since a Cattle Trail tourney semifinal loss to Southwest on Dec. 9.

“Another really complete four quarters of basketball,” Cox added about Tuesday’s big win. “I was really pleased with our defense and our offense in transition.”

Cali Cox delivered four assists to go with a Broncos-best seven rebounds.

Peyton Cox and Izzy Stenho cleaned the glass of six caroms apiece.

Halle Bardsley totaled three more assists.

Meanwhile, DC-S (0-6) featured Clara Spargo’s 15 points and Laynee Lutz scoring six.

Junior Alyssa Schneider added five points.

“DC-S is full of some really great athletes,” coach Cox concluded. “They’re really young and they play real hard.”

The DC-S teams will play in next week’s Cambridge Holiday Tourney.

The Dundy County-Stratton boys dominated Tuesday’s varsity nightcap.

They led 14-7, 33-14 and 51-17 through the first three quarters.

They held the 2-5 Broncos to seven points or less in all four periods.

No individual stats were obtained, but the 6-1 Tigers are clearly ready for break then nextweek’s Cambridge Holiday Tournament.

They could get a shot to avenge their lone loss vs. Maywood-Hayes Center.
