CAMBRIDGE, Neb. — Jack D. Brown, age 66, of Cambridge, passed away at his home in Cambridge on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022, with his kids and wife present. Many people were able to surround him with love during the last few days.
Jack was born Oct. 9, 1956, in Oberlin, Kan., to parents, Leslie T. and Anna Ruth (Miesner) Brown. He graduated from Beaver Valley High School with the Class of 1975. Jack furthered his education at McCook Community College and The University of Nebraska Lincoln, achieving a degree in animal science and agriculture.
You could always find Jack outside. Fishing and hunting were his favorite past times when there wasn’t farm work. He loved being under the hood of any type of vehicle and could fix anything. He played football and basketball growing up and enjoyed watching Husker football. He raised cattle and crops his whole life. He was also a rural mail carrier in Cambridge for 35 years.
On Aug. 1, 1981, Jack married Kerry (Bartels) Brown in Imperial, Neb. To this union four children were born. Jack later remarried Dawn (Jones) Brown on Feb. 6, 2016 in Lexington, Neb., gaining three step-children.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Sue Baird of Denver, Colo.
Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Dawn Brown of Cambridge; children, Haven Brown of Nashville, Tenn., Shelby Brown of Denver, Logan (Karla) Brown of Max, Neb., and Austin (Megan) Brown of Holbrook, Neb.; step-children, Jesse (Brooke) Langley of Alma, Neb., Jacob (Lacey) Langley of Elm Creek, Neb., and Andrea (Kris) Dresen of Eaton, Colo.; two grandchildren, Rilynn and Cooper; five step-grandchildren, Tucker, Presley, Easton, Scarlett, and Taylor; his brothers and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project, 7020 A.C. Skinner Parkway, Suite 100, Jacksonville FL 32256 or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis TN 38105.
A book signing with family present to greet friends will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 19, 2022, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook with Chaplin Lonna Grabenstein as officiant.
