Falcon wrestlers get best of 20 teams at Mullen tourney

MULLEN, Neb. — Seniors Tanner O’Brien and Kolyn Gaston conquered tough brackets while leading Hitchcock County’s wrestlers to second among 22 Mullen Bronc Invite teams Saturday.

Top 10 teams and all area top four placers at Mullen:

Top 10 teams of 22: 1. Anselmo-Merna 154, 2. Hitchcock County 143, 3. Mullen 141.5, 4. North Platte St. Patrick’s 98, 5. Bayard 86, 6. Southwest 70.5, 7. North Central 59, 8. Sandhills-Thedford 57.5, 9. Bridgeport 49.5, 10. Kimball 40, 17. Medicine Valley 20.

132 pounds: Carter VanPelt, SW (7-0 season record ) won the championship with a 3-2 final over B. Burry, Bayard. Tanner McLain, HC (3-2) finished fourth.

160: Tanner O’Brien, HC (3-0) won the championship when he pinned Karson Shuler, HC, in 1:48. Shuler (2-1) placed second.

182: Kolyn Gaston, HC (4-0), won the championship with a 10-0 finals decision over Tyler Ellis, SW. Ellis improved to 6-1 this season and placed second.

195: Keegan Shuler (2-1) placed second though he lost a 7-5 final to S. Miller, A-M (4-0).

285: Taylor Hubl, HC (2-1), placed second was pinned in a 4:24 final vs. Isaac Welch, MUL (3-0).

106: Konner McCrumb, W.P. (3-3), placed third with a 12-11 finale over Dylan Kollmorgan, HC. Kollmorgen (3-2) finished fourth.

120: Blake Devitt, HC (3-1) placed third with a 6-0 win over K. Nelson, Brady.

145: Nathan Kollmorgen, HC (3-2), finished fourth.

In B division, Hitchcock County’s Kade Thiesen placed fourth (160) and Falcon teammate Karson Hubl (182) took third place.
