McCOOK, Neb. — A recap of 16 area teams who tipped off the Cattle Trail Basketball tournament where Maywood-Hayes Center girls and Dundy County-Stratton boys are defending their titles again.

GIRLS — Southwest 46, Hitchcock County 18

Southwest allowed only four first-half points while senior Caylin Barnett hit seven of 10 shots for 15 points Thursday afternoon at McCook High.

The Roughriders (2-1 record) allowed only five Hitchcock two-point baskets all game.

Freshman Riley Hagan's five points paced the 0-2 Falcons.

GIRLS — Medicine Valley 47, Arapahoe 35

Arapahoe cheerleaders enjoyed a boys basketball win over Southwest during Cattle Trail Tournament first-round action at McCook High on Thursday.

A 13-2 first quarter propelled the Medicine Valley Raiders to their first win this season Thursday.

Junior Stella Heapy's 14 points and six assists fueled the offense.

Classmate Kylie Rose's five steals ignited the Raider defense.

Junior Sienna Houghtelling added 10 points with eight rebounds.

Juniors Berkley Warner and Sabrina Jacobsen netted 13 points each for 1-2 Arapahoe.

Warner added a team-best eight rebounds.

BOYS — Arapahoe 56, Southwest 49

Sophomore William Shaw's 16 points led the Warriors' first win this season Thursday at McCook High School.

Senior Cooper Wendland and junior Campbell Schutz powered in 11 points apiece to keep the Roughriders (1-2) from rallying.

Junior Hunter Cunningham scored a game-high 22 points and senior Zack Ryan netted 13 for Southwest.

Junior Cole Barnett connected on two three-points to add six.

BOYS — Maywood-Hayes Center 61, Decatur Community (Kan.) 5

The Class D-1 No. 3 Wolves built a 35-0 halftime lead over Decatur Thursday night as those Red Devils played their first game for new coach Brad Weese.

Junior Jeremiah Ingison was a full-court force with 23 points and seven steals.

Senior Kyler Cox tallied 10 points and seven other Wolves hit shots.

GIRLS — Wauneta-Palisade 46, Decatur Community (Kan.) 38

The Broncos (2-1 record) broke from a 19-19 halftime tie with senior Cali Cox's bank shot "triple" putting W-P into command at 32-22.

Decatur rallied again in their season opener as Jenna Fortin (13) and Gabby Vontz (seven) teamed to tally 20 points.

Yet the Broncos finished this win behind junior Peyton Cox's 16 points and GraCee Goings 13.

GIRLS — Maywood-Hayes Center 65, Dundy County-Stratton 30

The M-HC girls didn't match their boys' 35-0 lead, but a 30-0 start was more than enough for their third straight win to start this season.

Senior Olivia Hansen's 14 points topped a balanced attack where classmates Mataya Roberts and Ashlin Broz each tallied 12.

Senior Alexis Wood added another eight points on three-for-six shooting.

No individual stats were obtained for 0-3 DC-S.

BOYS — Hitchcock County 63, Wauneta-Palisade 16

The Falcons were dominating in Thursday's finale at McCook High School.

Senior Trent Kisker scored 21 points to follow a 24-point effort against Cambridge last week.

Seniors Drew Scott (12 points), Keynan Gaston (eight), junior Jaxon Unrein (seven) and sophomore Mason Schilke (seven) were other Hitchcock shooters to create horror for Bronco victory hopes.

The young Broncos (1-2) featured senior Jacksen Littrel netting nine of their 16 points. They've totaled 70 points in three games which includes a 28-27 opening win over Wallace last week.

BOYS — Dundy County-Stratton 70, Medicine Valley 36
