McCOOK, Neb. — Joseph Eugene Hamrick, age 79, of McCook, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte, Neb.

Joe was born June 19, 1943. in Buckhannon, W.V., to parents, Arlan Oval and Virginia Rebecca (Cain) Hamrick. He was one of three children who grew up in Bergoo, W.V., and then Warren, Ohio, where he also attended school. Following high school, Joe enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, proudly serving his country from 1961 until honorably discharged in 1966.

On Sept. 24, 1965, Joe married the love of his life, Cheryl Ann (Burns) Hamrick in San Diego, Calif. The couple became parents to two children and made their home in Ohio before settling in McCook. Joe worked as a truckdriver for many years, serving as a union representative for the Teamsters. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing darts and horseshoes. Joe was a member of the McCook Eagle’s Club and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Brenda Ann Hamrick; a brother, Jerry Hamrick; and a sister, Deloris Jane (Hamrick) Barrick.

Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Cheryl Hamrick of McCook; his son, Joseph E. Hamrick, Jr., wife, Megumi, and their children, Jack and Hana of Tochigi, Japan; and his extended family members.

Visitation with family present to greet friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook.

Recitation of the Rosary will follow visitation, beginning at 7 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, also at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, 2022, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, McCook, with Father Kimminau as Celebrant.

Private family burial will be held at a later date.
