BARELY, Neb. — The Maywood-Hayes Center Wolves won a three-set beauty against talented Southwest Thursday night.

The Wolves reached 4-0 with a 25-23, 16-25, 27-25 victory featuring senior Lexi Wood’s 24 digs.

Senior Mataya Roberts ripped six kills with three each from Wood and senior Maddie Doyle.

Senior Olivia Hansen served two aces with more defense coming from libero Anaiah Seiler’s 14 digs, Hansen’s 13 and senior Kiley Hejtmanek hustling for 12.

“I felt like the girls brought a lot of energy and battled hard the whole night,” M-HC coach Shane Lawson commented. “Southwest has a tough team and I thought our girls did a good job of bouncing back after the second set and stayed mentally tough to pull through and win the third set. I saw a lot of great things but playing a team like Southwest also showed us some weaknesses in our defense that we need to continue to work on.”

The Wolves still found enough bite to stop a determined Rawlins County (Kan.) team 25-18, 25-14.

Senior Ashlin Broz delivered eight assists and Roberts made eight digs with four kills.

Meanwhile, Southwest improved to 5-2 by winning 25-10, 25-14 over Rawlins County.
