Wolves win RPAC; others in district finals race
LINCOLN, Neb. — Subdistrict volleyball tips off next week leading to district championship matches for all classes on Saturday, Oct. 30, and then state tournaments starting Nov. 4.
In other words, the fall season has hit its own home stretch. How many Gazette-area volleyball teams appear within striking range of making those "Sweet 16" district finals?
Class C-1
Chase County (24-4 record) holds the No. 7 spot with 45.1071 points just below Southwest Conference powerhouse Broken Bow (45.3929. The Longhorns appear district finals-bound and could be playing close to home.
Kearney Catholic (28-4) leads Class C-1 while Lincoln Lutheran (32-2) owns the No. 2 spot.
Class D-1
Cambridge (25-6) ranks No. 7 overall (44.7 points) as the Trojans have a great chance to reach district finals a third consecutive year.
The Trojans could see neighbor Southwest again more than once since those Roughriders (17-10) are currently 14th (43.44). These teams will play a subdistrict at Cambridge next week
Howells Dodge leads D-1 with 46.33 points but Mead ranks a close No. 2 (46.32).
Class D-2
RPAC two-time champion Maywood-Hayes Center (23-2) holds No. 4 (45.56 points) behind only Falls City Sacred Heart (28-3, 46.32), Humphrey St. Francis (20-5, 45.76) and Stuart (23-4, 45.7).
Despite two losses Tuesday night, Wauneta-Palisade (14-12) would also reach the D-2 district finals. The Broncos are 11th among all D-2 teams, totaling 42.73 points.
Other area teams likely need subdistrict championships to reach the top 16 of their classes.
McCook (8-18) is 24th among 30 Class B volleyball teams. The Bison will play Friday's Southwest Conference tournament at Minden before subdistricts in Lexington Tuesday evening.
No. 14 Lexington (15-13) and No. 17 Holdrege (11-16) will be the Bison subdistrict foes.
