Three more COVID-19 deaths reported in district

McCOOK, Neb. — Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department received a report last week of three additional deaths due to COVID-19 in the health district.

“While the number of deaths from COVID-19 has thankfully stayed low in our area, this is a time to remember that there are still people and families being harmed by this virus,” said Myra Stoney, Health Director at SWNPHD. “Each of us can do our part to protect our communities and support our healthcare workers who are still facing this pandemic every day.”

SWNPHD had 93 new cases of COVID-19 reported from Oct. 12 to Oct. 18, bringing the weekly average to 95.25 cases per week in the last 30 days. A breakdown by age includes: 0 to 19 – 19; 20 to 29 – 6; 30 to 39 – 11; 40 to 49 – 13; 50 to 59 – 12; 60 to 69 – 11; 70 to 79 – 11; 80 and over – 10. The total number of cases is 4,911.

Vaccination rates across the health district have reached 51.5%, counting both fully vaccinated and partially vaccinated individuals.

Pfizer, Moderna, and the one-dose J&J COVID vaccines are available at several locations throughout the health district including at SWNPHD, local pharmacies and participating providers. Testing for COVID-19 is available at local medical clinics and at Mark’s Pharmacy in Cambridge.
