MAYWOOD, Neb. — Maywood-Hayes Center's mowing down wins again as the Wolves rumbled through Hi-Line and Arthur County at their own volleyball invitational on Monday.

Junior Kiley Hejtmanek served 25 points including five aces while classmate Olivia Hansen clobbered 20 kills — 10 during each match.

The Wolves topped Hi-Line 25-13, 25-26; then swept finals foe Arthur County 25-12, 25-21.

These returning Class D-2 state semifinalists have won eight straight since an early September loss to Southwest.

"We had to dig deep to pull out that second set," coach Kory Rohde said about Monday's title match. "Arthur County is a really good team and pushed us. We are a better team after playing this game."

Stevie Handsaker served 10-for-10 with two aces against Arthur County.

Hejtmanek (11 assists) and Wood (nine) kept the Wolves' front attack firing. Besides Hansen hammering 10 kills, Maddie Doyle drilled five shots to the court past visiting Arther County Wolves

Hansen also made three strong ace blocks, Wood two and Doyle one.

"The girls could have given up after getting down but battled back," Rohde observed. "I was proud of their composure and effort.

Arthur County (7-4 record) had won seven of 10 with Monday's semifinal sweep of an 11-3 South Platte team.

Hejtmanek served 17 points and four aces during the win over Hi-Line.

Hansen went a perfect 19-for-19 hitting in her first 10-kill performance. Doyle and Kyla Patel teamed for another nine kills as Patel finished six-for-six.

Doyle and Hansen were equally devastating on the defensive front line. Both made three stuff blocks.

Hejtmanek delivered 11 assists just like the championship match.

"We served and passed the ball well and that makes everything a little better," Rohde concluded.
