McCOOK, Neb. — Tonight’s McCook Homecoming Week softball game should be more memorable than the Tuesday evening contest with Kearney Catholic.

“We really didn’t show up to play unfortunately,” coach Jason Cochran observed about the 9-1 loss to those visiting Stars.

Lauren Marker left the park with a home run and Kearney Catholic went on to crush four more extra-base hits while capturing its 10th win this season (10-2 record).

McCook (3-7) delivered five singles including two from senior Graci Nelson.

Yet the Bison also committed five defensive errors in game called after only five innings.

Freshman Paige Bortner’s base hit started the only hit of a Bison comeback.

Graci Nelson soon reached on an infield singled to third.

With two outs, senior Jada Berry sent another single into center field which scored Bortner.

However, the Stars threw out a Bison courtesy runner at third base to end that third inning.

They quickly plated more runs for an 8-1 advantage.

Lainey Schmidt singled for the one other Bison hit.

K.C. pitcher Bralen Biddlecome threw some “beebees”, striking out four and walking just one. Biddlecome drilled two doubles and scored two runs.

The Bison aim for better success when Lexington visits to play a 6:30 p.m. game tonight. McCook trounced the Minutemaids, 10-0, on August 28 at a Holdrege Invitational.
