Liberating vaccination

Tuesday, July 6, 2021

Dear Red Willow County folks,

I hope everyone had a safe and happy Independence Day weekend. Now it is time to plan for a safe and happy Fall.

I read the latest Nebraska Covid report and saw that your county currently has about a 33% vaccination rate.

I remember meeting a lot of intelligent people during our 20 year residency in your county and don’t understand why your numbers are not higher. With that Delta Variant lurking around, more good people could still get in trouble.

My wife Diana and I could hardly wait to get our shots in Lancaster County over the Winter and had minimal side effects.

It is a very liberating experience and it feels a lot safer being around a 70 % vaccinated community. My Rotary Club members have all received their shots and it is great getting together again without zooming, masking or distancing. Nebraska has experienced over 200,000 Covid cases and over 2,200 Covid deaths. That is enough! So please roll up your sleeves and set an example for other western counties that are lagging behind. You will be glad you did.

Duane Tappe,
