Fund transfer for pandemic loss on school agenda

McCOOK, Neb. — The McCook Board of Education will be asked to approve transferring funds from the general fund to the activity account, to make up for revenue lost during the pandemic, at the regular board meeting Monday, 6:30 p.m. at the junior high conference room.

The general fund is funded primarily by property taxes, 44%, and state aid at 34%. Other revenue comes from local receipts, federal funds and other state receipts.

A public hearing for comment on the American Civics Report is scheduled before the regular meeting at 6 p.m.

Included in the agenda is “2021 Senior High Activities Department Pandemic Financial Status.” The report details loss of revenue due to the pandemic for 2019-20 and 2020-21, for gate receipts/entry fees, activity tickets and hosting events.

A total of $39,338 was lost due to the pandemic, according to the report. Based on an average from the last four years, a $6,710 loss was realized from host events (average revenue is $9,079; revenue for 2020-21, $2,369); a $4,901 loss in activity tickets (average revenue, $23,224; revenue for 2020-21, $18,323); and $27,726.66 in gate receipts/entry fees for 2019-20 and 2020-21. Average gate receipts/entry fees generate $54,136.33; in 2019-20, $46,728 was collected and in 2020-21 $20,318.33 collected.

On the regular agenda, the board will be asked to approve several items, including a contract for Lori Barger for first grade and two student handbooks, one for McCook Elementary and Central Elementary and another for junior and senior high.

Other topics scheduled for discussion but no voting at Monday’s night meeting include:

-- Scheduled discussions with architecture firms concerning district facility planning and an update on summer school

--Reports from staff members and committees

-- A review of social science courses Criterion Reference Test folders;

-- A report from Business Manager Jeff Gross on copier and printer equipment.
