McCook Community College sophomore Kallie Cathcart has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball this fall at Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kan. The Bluejays compete in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference at the NAIA level.

MCC-Kallie Cathcart signing Cathcart, a 5-7 outside hitter from Holly, Colo. believes she found both college and a community that both mirror McCook.

“I really liked that Tabor has a strong family feel not only within their athletics but also in their community, and like McCook the there is strong community support,” she said.

“I’m super excited for Kallie to be signing with Tabor,” said MCC Coach Kallie Cathcart. “I really felt like that was a school that was meant to happen for her.”

In high school, Kallie was leaning toward attending nearby Otero Junior College but came to an open tryout at MCC.

“She has been a pleasure to coach. I’m glad she came to that tryout and ultimately picked us,” Kobza said. “We had a connection because we kind of came from the same backgrounds with our families.”

As a freshman middle blocker Cathcart was named to the All-Region IX South team, with 87 total blocks. She also received honorable mention on the 2019 Omaha World-Herald All-Nebraska college team. In the 27 matches in which she played she had 135 kills, (1.53 kills per set) and 45 digs.

Despite that success from the middle, Kobza moved Cathcart before the 2021 season began.

“We moved her back to her original position as outside and she will be a dominating force in that positon,” Kobza said.

“She is a great player. She played the middle for us last year and outside for us this year and she worked really hard to make that transition,” Kobza said. “And that’s a big transition to make, but she did it well.”

She played in 24 matches this season.
