The Nebraska Department of Education needs a boot in the ass

Thursday, April 1, 2021

Dear Editor,

The Nebraska State Board of Education (NSBE) has submitted for public review and commentary a proposed set of eight health standards from the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE). Two – ‘Human Growth & Development’ and ‘Social, Emotional & Mental Health’ – are cause for alarm; because I’ve seen this plan in action before …

Having resided in my home state of Massachusetts for 30 years, before moving to SW Nebraska in 2005, I witnessed the ruination of that state’s public school system, under the intervening hand of big-government progressivism and the imposed agenda of homosexual activists.

I came to know their tactics of undermining the bond children have to parents and country, how these activists entice children and adolescents to engage in dangerous sexual practices. The isolation and reprobation were accomplished by entrenching progressive bureaucrats into the education system, who would then introduce a gradual but constant litany of anti-family, anti-Christian, anti-American ideology: Perversion, under the pretext of “health education;” and a social studies curriculum that included a National History Standard oriented more towards disparaging the United States and Western civilization than to teaching factual history in context. This travesty was forced into Massachusetts schools via Outcome Based Education (OBE) and Goals 2000 – the “outcome” and “goals” of which were hostile to American values and traditional Judeo-Christian morality.

OBE programs children at an early age to march lockstep with the nihilist ideology of progressivism. The Goals 2000 history standard entailed blaming Western culture in general – and white European males in particular – for the evils befallen on humanity. G2K premiered the revisionist trashing of the United States that is now routinely found in many social studies curriculum. More belligerent than its predecessor, the new iteration is best described as cultural lynching, a disparaging not only of country and creed, but of race. This is exemplified by “critical race theory,” an introduction to which is apparent in section HE.8.6.4c of the 8th grade ‘Social, Emotional & Mental Health’ standard, and fully developed in section HE.HS.2.17 of the high school version – more accurately titled the “perpetual victimhood standard.”

Concomitant with OBE and Goals 2000 indoctrination in Massachusetts public schools was the teaching and normalization of aberrant sexual behavior, under the pretext of “comprehensive sex education” – the intentional desensitizing and sexualization of children, enticing impressionable young minds to “experience” eugenicist Alfred C. Kinsey’s warped theories of human sexuality. If Nebraskans are unfamiliar with the true origins of the “health” standards the NDE proposes, I advise they read Kinsey: Crimes & Consequences (Judith A. Reisman, PhD., Institute for Media Education, 1998). The following example typifies Kinsey’s legacy …

On 25 March 2000, a Massachusetts scandal, dubbed “Fist-gate,” made national headlines: 200 high school students were bused to “TeachOut” – a conference held at Tuffs University, and sponsored by GLSEN-Boston. GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network) is a national homosexual organization that targets children, and has formed “gay straight alliance” clubs in public schools across the country. At the conference, students as young as 12 were given graphic instruction, by Department of Education employees, describing the pleasures of homosexual sex acts. Parents were never informed of the planned subject matter. (See: 19 October 2012 update of the original ‘Mass Resistance’ story for details). This is the poison Kool-Aid our children will eventually be forced to drink if the NSBE succeeds in adopting these new comprehensive “health” standards.

The NSBE now presumes to instruct K through 5th graders on the explicit terms and functions of reproductive anatomy. But by what power do they presume upon that which is rightfully a solemn duty of parenting? Same question on teaching “gender roles.” That the NDE seeks to usurp this authority – breaching what should remain the exclusive domain of mothers, fathers, and legal guardians – is the height of bureaucratic arrogance.

If this violation of parental rights were not enough, the NDE demonstrates unbridled temerity in suggesting Nebraskans allow the education bureaucracy to teach kindergarteners and elementary school children the ever-evolving progressive “anything goes” concept of family. Traditional marriage – one man and one woman joined in an exclusive lifelong bond, for the God-ordained purpose of procreating children – is but one of many “possibilities.” By the Department’s determination, same-sex “marriage” and other dysfunctional arrangements are legitimate topics for inclusion in your child’s education. Likewise is the promotion of contraception and “safe sex.” Abstinence is treated as one of many options your child has “a right” to choose – because “kids are going to do it anyway.” The offense does not end with promoting abnormal and immoral behavior; rather it enters the realm of the bizarre …

Having perhaps imagined the foregoing trespass insufficient, the NDE decided to incorporate the latest twist in progressive perversity: “gender identity.” Gender dysphoria – a disorder in which a boy “feels” he is a girl, and a girl “feels” she is a boy – is included in the “standards” – not as a mental health disorder, but rather as a valid individual “choice.” NSBE members apparently “feel” that this rare and usually temporary confusion over sexual identity should become commonplace, a permanent fixture of the “Good Life.”

In sum, the proposed standards for ‘Human Growth & Development’ and ‘Social, Emotional & Mental Health,’ which the NDE and NSBE seek to promulgate throughout Nebraska, despite community-approved curriculum, are cultural time bombs that will undercut parental authority, harm innocence, and create future social-economic problems for our state. The same secular self-anointed saviors of mankind whose policies created most of our nation’s social ills will then offer their “solutions” – all of which shall invariably require increasing levels of government intrusion into our families. These “standards” are a direct assault on parental rights. They demonstrate the NDE’s indifference towards the traditional family, morality, and our children’s innocence. The NDE leadership and the members of the NSBE deserve a Nebraska-sized boot in the ass for suggesting them.

  • No AprilFools about it. The State is wanting to impose upon public school teachers to discuss with 6 year olds sexuality. This is NOT their responsibility plus 6 years old is too young.

"...under the intervening hand of big-government progressivism and the imposed agenda of homosexual activists."

Sounds like someone has a lot of time and paranoid delusion on their hands. If you believe that, here's your sign.

  • This letter may or may not make valid points, but it sure is long.

  • Perhaps this paranoid and delusional person should move back to Massachusetts and leave the good folks of southwest Nebraska alone to live in peace.

Or is he just a totally frustrated and unhappy closet queen? From the hate filled tone of his letter sounds like a real possibility.

It is quite unAmerican to try to shove your beliefs and interpretations down everyone else's throat.

  • Talk about calling the kettle black ontheleftcoast. "Shove your beliefs and interpretations down everyone else's throat". How about all the leftist's shoving down our throats that we have to be "less white", embrace illegal border crossings, erase history?

What happened to just being an America and embracing the fact that we live here?

Rural Citizen, your repeated admissions of ill founded fear only paints you as an unreliable source for anyone regarding anything.

  • Anyone who believes this is ok to be teaching in our schools are just as sick as the idiots on the Nebraska board of education. I tried really hard to believe this was ok but I couldn't get my head that far up my ***. For those who thinks this is ok you need to go see your proctologist and have him pull your head out. So long as a Dem is president this Country is going to hell in a hand basket.
