Robert LeRoy Ruppert

April 18, 1938 - Jan. 3, 2021

McCOOK, Neb. — Robert LeRoy Ruppert, age 82, of McCook, died Jan. 3, 2021.

He was born on April 18, 1938, to Jay and Doris (Meissner) Ruppert at Quick, Neb. (Frontier County). He married Velma Jean Speth on Dec. 26, 1957, whom he was married to for 63 years.

Bob and Jean farmed north of McCook on his home place where he was raised until he retired.

He was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed following his children and grandchildren’s activities throughout the years. On children’s activities days, he would get to the field early and work through dinner so he could be at the games early to see all the kids play both reserve and varsity. He attended all of their activities, not just sports.

Bob was a member of the Garden Prairie Methodist Church. He was a member of the Quick baseball team and later played in Maywood.

Bob served on the ASCS, the West Sale Barn, and the Maywood Coop Boards for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Velma (Jean); children, Deanna (Lyle) Koester of Wellfeet, Lynne Niemeyer of Omaha, Steven Ruppert of Omaha, and Janice (Randy) Arent of Maywood; grandchildren, Garret Koester of Wellfeet, Staci (Zachary) Adam of Hyannis, Brooke (Tyler) Guthrie of Arapahoe, Susan (Brandon) Gardels of Omaha, Evan Niemeyer of Omaha, Ethan Niemeyer of Ames, Iowa, Kelvin Arent of North Platte, and Brandon Arent of Maywood; great-grandchildren, Braxton and Kyson Adam, Kobie, Stella, and Gentry Guthrie, and Scarlet and Silas Gardels; sisters, Helen Magee and Mary Zimbleman of McCook; sisters-in-law, Donna Ruppert and Naomi Ruppert of McCook and Peggy Speth of St. Catharine, Mo.; brother-in-law, Dean and Donna Speth of Unadilla; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
