McCOOK, Neb. — Karen M. Hiatt, age 62, of McCook, passed away on Dec. 19, 2020, at Great Plains Health in North Platte, Neb..

Karen was born Jan. 22, 1958, in McCook to parents, William Richard and Mary Angela (Hoatson) Schenck. She was one of five siblings who grew up in McCook, attending school and graduating from McCook High School with the Class of 1976.

On Oct. 30, 1976, Karen married Dennis Hiatt in McCook. The couple was blessed with four daughters. Over the years, Karen worked in the banking industry. She had just recently retired from Lincoln Federal Bank.

Karen loved watching her kids and grandkids compete in sporting events. She was a swim team coach for the McCook YMCA. Karen was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan who loved her dog, Annie, and enjoyed cooking, cleaning her house, attending craft shows, shopping, reading and gambling. Family pizza parties were something the family enjoyed doing together. Karen was a spiritual person but very private about her faith.

Karen was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Schenck; and her daughter, Amber Husted.

Those left to celebrate her life include her husband, Dennis Hiatt of McCook; daughters, Brooke (Brian) Robinson of Lincoln, Neb., Marie Hiatt and Kirstie (Ross) Koch, all of McCook; father, William Schenck of McCook; brother, Joe (Leah) Schenck of Omaha, Neb.; sisters, Monica (Mark) Wacker of McCook, Barb Schenck of North Platte, and Elaine (Jeff) Polly of McCook; five grandchildren, Graci and Tesa Nelson, Dominic Robinson, and Caroline and Jack Koch; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

A book signing with family present to greet friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook.

A private memorial service will be held on Monday, Dec. 28, 2020, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Pastor Clark Bates officiating.

Private family burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery in the Spring of 2021.
