Eunice Arlene Nealeigh Campbell

Aug. 3, 1947 - July 3, 2020

TRENTON, Neb. — Eunice Arlene Nealeigh Campbell was born in Ansley, Neb., on Aug. 3, 1947, to Carl and Arlene Nealeigh. She grew up on a farm south of Trenton and she attended grade school in Cornell and Beverley. She graduated from Trenton High School as the salutatorian in 1965. She attended McCook Junior College, Kearney State College and she graduated from the University of Kansas with honors. In 1966, she and George W Campbell were married in the United Methodist Church in Trenton. They spent the early years of their marriage attending college, living in Kearney, Lawrence, Kan., and Oak Ridge, Tenn.

Their first son, James Robert, was born on Nov. 15, 1971, in Lawrence, Kan. In 1972, they moved to Byron, Calif., and Christopher George was born on July 9, 1973, in Livermore, Calif. Eunice chose to devote the early years of her son’s lives to raising and supporting them.

In 1983, they moved to Berthoud, Colo., to be closer to their parents. They lived on a small ranch in the Rocky Mountain foothills and Eunice continued to help at school and church.

In 1988, they moved back to California to a home on Discovery Bay. Eunice was asked by the high school principal to start teaching again and she taught English at Liberty Union High School, where she chaired the English department with 12 English teachers. In 1991, they purchased a home in Manchester, Calif., as a weekend retreat and spent every weekend on the coast. In 1999, Eunice accepted an offer to teach English at Point Arena High. She taught and cared about every student in that high school and the class size and close interaction with the students allowed her to remember why she became a teacher. She retired from teaching in 2010. They built a new home in Manchester and enjoyed just being retired and spending time with her grandkids. She was a member and for many years the president of the Manchester Elementary School Board

In 2013, they moved to a home in Ocean View, Hawaii. They purchased a home called the “Castle” in Naalehu, Hawaii, in 2017. She was active in the Naalehu United Methodist Church, serving for many years as the church secretary. She met several close friends in Hawaii and until recently walked with them three mornings a week. Her greatest joy was always spending time with her sons and her grandkids. Her laugh and her happy nature will be sorely missed. She passed away on July 3, 2020, at her home with George by her side.

She is survived by her husband, George; sons, JR (Melissa), Chris (Kim); brothers, Ken and Ron; sister, Sue; grandkids, Willow, Ash, Sophia, Simone, Trevor and Andrew; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be in the Southwest Nebraska area at a later date.
