'Parents Day' Sunday

Friday, July 24, 2020

TRENTON, Neb. -- We celebrate moms in May and dads in June, but a lesser-known day of honor is Parents’ Day, which was created in 1994 under President Bill Clinton as a way to recognize, uplift, and support the role of parents in the rearing of children. Parents’ Day 2020 is July 26.

Stephanie Malcolm, the Professional Development Coordinator in Math/Science for Educational Service Unit 15 in Trenton said, “All parents could use a little appreciation, everyday, and especially after the last months of the school year this year!”

The website, familyeducation.com had several other suggestions that children could do on Parents’ Day to say thank-you:

- Breakfast in bed

- A note left on their pillow at night

- Tea or coffee brought to them anytime

- The laundry folded

- A younger brother or sister's room cleaned

F- lowers or branches put in vases around the house

- Call a family meeting and ask the children to say what they appreciate about their parents

Volunteer to do something without being asked

- Clean out the car

- Give a big hug and say I love you
