Bruce Crosby/McCook Gazette

Eleven passengers at a time enjoyed rides over North Platte over the weekend, including a view of the Union Pacific Bailey Yards, above, in a 1928 Ford Tri-Motor, thanks to the Experimental Aircraft Association. Like the Gazette’s 1929 Newsboy, the Tri-Motor has been restored, but unlike the Curtiss, the Ford “City of Wichita” is not spending its time in a museum. The EAA leases the plane from the Liberty Aviation Museum in Port Clinton, Ohio. This plane, Serial No. 8, served with Transcontinental Air Transport, was then transferred to TWA, then served various sightseeing air services before going to Latin America, eventually becoming part of the Harrah automobile collection, then to another museum before finding its current home. More information is available here.
