The McCook Art Guild hosts a reception and celebration of the life of McCook and Cambridge Lake artist Gary Ginther on Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. until 5 p.m., at the art studio at 209 Norris Ave. in downtown McCook. Ginther was 71 years old when he died Christmas Day 2018. Ginther was a self-taught sculptor well-known locally and throughout the United States for his work in bronze, pewter, resin and fiberglas. Two of his favorite subjects were the Sandhills crane and the American bison. He was a conservationist and naturalist, and received acclaim for the realism of his wildlife sculptures. Pieces of Ginther's art will be on display during the reception, and supporters of his art may make donations to the new "Ginther Art Scholarship Program" established by his children for McCook Senior High graduates wishing to pursue a college education and career in art.
