Hitchcock girls rule home track-field meet

TRENTON, Neb. — Hitchcock County’s girls won a super 102-94 battle over Wauneta-Palisade to get the track/field season moving on Tuesday in Trenton.

Maywood-Hayes Center reached the top five of this eight-team invite with 56 points.

A quick rundown of most event champs with more results appearing this week.

— Senior Kyleigh Scott made a strong debut as she won both the 100 (13.2) and 200 meters (27.2) that were close to her seed time despite windy conditions.

Sophomore Haylee Sandman placed second behind Scott in the 200 (30.1).

— Maywood-Hayes Center senior Jayden Widener won the 400 meters (1:06.8).

— Champion Maycee Wheeler (2:59.5) and Zoey Boos (3:00.7) went 1-2 for Wauneta-Palisade in the 800 meters.

— Boos went on to win the 1600 meters (6:27.3) ahead of Hitchcock’s Charlie Apple (6:28.8) and Jaycee Lapp of M-HC (6:31).

— The M-HC relay covered 1600 meters for a title as Avery Johnson, Lapp, Jayden Widener and Jaycee Widener (4:34.4) outran five teams including Hitchcock’s Scott, Amanda Horinek, Aimee Merrill and Kass Kisker (4:47.2, second).

— Sandman won the long jump (14’1 1/2’) and Bronco teammate Michaela Dukes earned second (14’1 1/2”) in a very close competition.

Johnson was third (13’8 1/2”) for the M-HC Wolves.

— Hitchcock ruled other field events.

Kisker won the triple jump (30’2”) and junior classmate Shaye Porter was shot put champ (33’3 1/2) ahead of W-P’s Destany Simpson (33’1”).
