VANCOUVER, Wash. — Matthew Shaw Hanna passed away in Vancouver, Wash., on Feb. 26, 2019.

Matt was born Sept. 29, 1958, in Plainville, Kan., to Rex I. Hanna Jr. and Pauline Hanna. Matt’s early years were spent living on military bases in the United States and Panama Canal zone.

After his father’s retirement from the military in 1970, they settled in Culbertson, Neb., where Matt attended high school.

Matt enlisted in the U.S. Army after high school and proudly served as a MP with the 977th MP Co. 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.

After Matt’s service, he returned to McCook, Neb., where he worked in construction and oil field drilling.

Matt relocated to Vancouver, where he earned an associate of applied science degree in diesel technology.

Matt had a successful career as a fleet mechanic for Washougal School District, Washougal, Wash., Penske Truck Leasing in Portland Ore., Daimler-Chrysler in Portland and also excelled in mechanical engineering as a mock-up tech for Diamler Trucks North America, Portland.

Matt was a proud veteran-father-grandfather and rabid Husker fan.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rex I. Hanna Jr.; mother, Pauline Hanna; and sister, Margaret Mary Hanna.

Matt leaves his son, Josh (Katie) and grand daughter, Hailey Jo; daughter, Sunny Rae (Ronald Melton) and grandsons, Ronnie and Ollie; sister, Theresa Leamon (Joe) and nieces, Sheila Tallant-Boone and Mandy Leamon; brother, Rex Hanna (Janice) and nephews, Nick, Jay, and Maxx.
