McCOOK, Neb. — Charlotte Sue Lawson, age 80, of McCook, passed away on Friday, Feb. 15, 2019, at Hillcrest Nursing Home.

She was born in McCook on Dec. 5, 1938, to Joseph and Roberta Beatrice “Bea” (Somerville) Uhrich. Charlotte was the oldest of two daughters. She grew up in McCook, attending and graduating from McCook High School in 1957. She attended McCook Junior College and later, Kearney State College.

Charlotte married Donald E. Lawson of Norcatur, Kan., on Feb. 26, 1961, at the First Congregational Church in McCook. They moved to Lawton, Okla., where Don was stationed in the United States Army at Fort Sill. Upon Don’s discharge from the service, they moved back to Norcatur, where they farmed, raising wheat, and cattle. In 1993, they moved to Oberlin, Kan. In 2002, due to health reasons, Charlotte moved to Willow Ridge (now Brookdale) in McCook. In 2016, due to declining health, Charlotte moved to Hillcrest Nursing Home.

Charlotte was a life-time member of the First Congregational Church, the Daughters of American Revolution (DAR), and Red Hat Ladies of Willow Ridge. Her first job was at DeGroff’s Department Store in the Men’s department, where her father, Joe, was the manager.

She enjoyed reading, playing bingo, and visiting with her friends and family. She was a loving mother to her two sons and kept in touch with them often.

Charlotte is survived by her two sons, Doug and Steven Lawson of Concordia, Kan.; sister, Becky and husband, Merlin Wright of Fort Morgan, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews, as well as her extended family.

Memorials may be given in her name to the First Congregational Church.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019, at 11 a.m., at the First Congregational Church of McCook with Pastor Steve Bales. Burial will follow in the Oberlin Cemetery, Oberlin, Kan., at 2 p.m. graveside.
