Wolves reject 'Riders, Tigers still unbeaten

BARTLEY, Neb. — A tight 12-10 first quarter only awoke the Maywood-Hayes Center Wolves from any Saturday afternoon slumber.

Oh my, how the 5-2 Wolves woke up.

They blocked 16 shots and only permitted five more points through the next three quarters of a 50-17 road victory over still-determined host Southwest.

Sophomore Jaycee Widner rejected nine of those Roughrider shot when she wasn’t securing 12 game-high rebounds.

Meanwhile, junior Avery Johnson was hitting enough shots to outscore their Southwest Rughrider foes 18-17Senior Paige Wood was strong with 11 points on 50 percent shooting.

Jaycee Widener put 10 points through the nets to join that duo in double figures.

Jayce Lapp delivered seven assists and Johnson to turn many of the Wolves’ 20 steals into baskets.

Junior Jadyn Brooks’ six points paced the Southwest attack with senior Nicole Dewey scoring seven.

Southwest was held to only six made field goals.

Falcons soar to 4-1

TRENTON, Neb. — A scoreless Hitchcock County fourth quarter didn’t matter during the Falcons’ 61-25 victory over Medicine Valley on Saturday.

Coach Mark Brown’s team only became stronger through the first three periods where they dropped in 17, 19 and 25 points to build a 61-21 lead.

No Falcon individual stats were obtained.

Junior Sabra Schmidt put in 12 points to pace the Medicine Valley Raiders.

Sophomore Acelyn Klein added six points that followed up her 13 Friday night against South Loup.

Tigers now 8-0

BENKELMAN, Neb. — The Dundy County-Stratton dominated reached 53-3 by halftime of a 61-11 win over visiting Perkins County on Saturday.

The Tigers are now 8-0 as they shot a blazing 58 percent overall.

Sophomore McKinzie Baney’s 17 points balanced a balanced attack which featured another 16 from senior Adaelene Krutsinger and sophomore Maggie Lutz firing in 12 points.

Lutz shot five for seven from two-point range.

Senior Grace Frederick finished a perfect three-for-three while netting another nine points.

The Tigers assisted on 22 baskets and only committed 11 turnovers.

Frederick and junior guard Sable Lambley delivered five assists each.

DC-S was just about as dominant throughout a 58-16 win over St. Francis, Kan., on Friday.

Krutsinger (17 points), Baney (14) and Frederick (10) led the attack.

Tough defeats

LOOMIS, Neb. — The Cambridge girls dropped a 57-35 decision to Loomis despite junior Korynn Clason’s 16 points.

Wauneta-Palisade fell 42-40 to Hyannis and dropped a 65-36 game against South Platte.
