Darrell Meister of McCook and Mililani, Hawaii, the owner of the American bison herd near Red Willow Dam north of McCook, offers tours of his herd of 25 animals starting Wednesday, Sept. 26, helping to kick of McCook’s annual Heritage Days celebration Sept. 26-30. Each tour will include discussion of the history of the bison in America, a look at the interaction between the bison and Native Americans, a description of herd social structure, and a glimpse into the current status of the bison industry. Meister issues this invitation, “Experience the ‘National Mammal’ herd of bison at Hugh Butler Lake up close and personal with a private tour.” Meister charges $50 for one to five guests; and $100 for six to 10 guests. He’ll include a complimentary package of bison jerky. Tours will be available through Thursday, Oct. 11. Call or text Meister at (808) 779-8348.
