Voters deserve debate
Dear Editor,
As the midterm elections draw near it is time for us to learn more about the choices we will face at the ballot box. This year, there will be two candidates to choose from for the district three seat in the House of Representatives. Paul Theobald and Adrian Smith are the candidates in this race. In the May 2018 Republican primary, over a third of the voters did not support Smith. He ran unopposed in 2016 and has served since 2007.
It is now time for a public debate to give the district three voters the opportunity to learn more about the positions the two candidates hold on issues that affect our district and our nation. Paul Theobald has been calling for public debates but no dates have yet been established. We voters also are asking for public forums where we can hear both candidates on their positions. Issues such as keeping rural hospitals open, trade tariffs and Nebraska agricultural products, budget deficits and tax cuts are just a few of the areas that need more scrutiny by district three voters. District three makes up most of Nebraska and we certainly deserve the opportunity to hear the candidates debate each other.
